About us
Who does the work
Nelly’s Construction is a small family business based in Bracknell. We have built patios, driveways and gardens across Berkshire, Surrey and South Buckinghamshire for over 20 years, and we are fully insured.
What we build
Driveways
The surfaces we lay for drives.
- Block pavingThe most common drive we build, in the pattern and colour you choose.
- GravelA loose surface with a firm edge to hold it.
- ShaleA compacted stone surface for longer drives.
- ShingleRounded stones, often used with a block paving border.
- TarmacA smooth, dark surface for the whole drive.

Block paving
For drives, paths and patios.
- BrickClay or concrete blocks in the classic brick size.
- PermeableBlocks with open joints that let rain drain through.
- RumbledBlocks with softened edges, for an older look.
- Granite settsNatural stone setts, for drives and for edging.
- CobblestoneRounded cobbles, for a traditional finish.
How the job goes
Four stages on every drive
Dig out
The old drive comes up and the ground is dug out to depth.
Base and drainage
A compacted base goes down, with channel drains where water needs to go.
Laying
The blocks are laid on a sand bed, with the edges and kerbs set first.
Finishing
Sand is brushed into the joints and the drive is compacted and swept.
